Dr Hugh Dearnley

MBBS (Syd)

Specialities: General medicine and recreational dive medicals.

Dr Dearnley graduated from Sydney University and spent some years working in country towns.

He has been in the Tweed area for over 20 years, and with our Practice since 2009.

He enjoys all aspects of General Practice, but has special interests in older people and how they cope with problems of the aging body. Dr Dearnley recognises the problems of stress in everyone’s life, and how to manage it. He also has an interest in Skin Cancers.

He has always been active and currently cycles a lot, including to and from work. He has been unable to persuade his co-workers to join him!

Dr Dearnley loves to go for a walk on the beach with his dog.

Dr Stephen Palin

MBChB, FRACGP

Specialities: General medicine, travel vaccinations and family medicine.

Having graduated from Liverpool University in 1996, Dr Palin obtained his FRACGP in 2001. Dr Palin started out in Liverpool UK and then Oxford before moving to Australia in 2001. He worked in Gladstone, then Brisbane and lastly settled in the Tweed area in 2001.

Dr Palin currently carries out his General Practice with us and also spends some of his time at John Flynn Hospital as a surgical assistant.

His general interests focus around family, home, keeping active and walking the dog.

Dr David Shaw

MBBS (Syd), FRACGP, Dip. Dermatology

Specialities: General medicine, skin cancer management, dermatology, skin cancer management and cosmetic medicine.

Dr David Shaw graduated from University of Sydney in 1997 and has been practicing medicine in the Tweed area since 2004.

He has a Diploma of Dermatology and his expertise includes Skin Cancer diagnosis and treatment as well as general and Cosmetic Dermatology.

When not working he enjoys surfing and spending time with family and is active in local youth and community work.

Dr Irfan Tariq

MBBS, FRACGP, Diploma Children’s Health, Diploma Dermatology, Certification in Skin Cancer, Management Certification in Aesthetic Medicine

Specialities: General medicine, dermatology, skin cancer management, family medicine, cosmetic medicine and paediatrics.

Dr Irfan Tariq has extensive experience in General Practice. He completed his medical qualifications in Pakistan and relocated to Australia in the year 2000. He joined our team at Tweed in 2008.

His other interests include spending time with family and friends, fishing and bush walking.

Dr Ileana Velcea

MD FRACGP

Specialities: General medicine.

Dr Velcea studied in Romania and graduated in 1993. After practicing in Romania she worked in South Africa from 1997-2001 and then moved to Australia.

She obtained her Fellowship to the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 2004. Dr Velcea has been in the local area since 2004.

She has an interest in all aspects of General Practice, particularly Women’s Health, Travel vaccination and advice, Geriatrics, Psychological Issues, Mental Health, Aged Care, Chronic Disease Management and Preventative medicine.

Dr Theary Thou

FRACGP, MBCHB(NZ), FRNZCUC, Diploma Child Health, Diploma Community Emergency Medicine, Certificate Sport Medicine, Certificate Reproductive and Sexual Health, Certificate in Athlete development.

Dr Theary Thou was born and educated in New Zealand graduating from University of Auckland. He first started to work as a Doctor in the Gold Coast / Tweed area in 2010 after being attracted to the weather and lifestyle.

Dr Thou has completed specialist training in both General Practice with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and Urgent Care with Royal New Zealand College of Urgent Care. He has also worked as a Doctor in Cambodia, Ireland and New Zealand.

When Dr Thou is off duty he enjoys spending time with his wife / three young boys and travelling. Being a former National Rep in Football and National Title Holder in Tennis he also enjoys being active playing all kinds of sports.

He has also completed additional training in men’s health, sports medicine, child health and travel medicine.

Dr Mazi Agah

MD, FRACGP, MMed (skin cancer)

Specialities: General medicine and skin cancer management.

Dr Mazi Agah obtained his Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 2008. He has interest in all aspect of general practice and all age groups, particularly chronic disease management, diabetes, COPD and heart disease.
Also, he obtained Master of Medicine skin cancer from University of Queensland in 2013 and uses his knowledge for skin cancer diagnosis and management.

Dr Nur Nazman

MBChB MRCP UK, MRCGP UK, MSc Clinical Dermatology (Cardiff)

Dr Nur Nazman graduated from University of Leeds, United Kingdom in 2010. She also completed Masters in Clinical Dermatology in 2013 from Cardiff University, UK.

Dr Nur has completed specialist training in the UK in both General Practice with Royal College of General Practitioners UK and Core Medical Training with Royal College of Physicians UK.

In her spare time, she enjoys exploring Australia, travelling and spending quality time with her family.

She has an interest in all aspects of General Practice, particularly:

Dr Vandana Gopinath

MD, MAFPicFRACGP (Mal Australia), Occupational Health Doctor (Mal)

Dr Vandana completed her training and obtained her MD degree from University of Andalas, Sumatera in 2012. She always had a special interest in the community and later specialised in Family Medicine where she obtained her International Conjoint Fellowship from the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (icFRACGP). She is an experienced General Practitioner with a working experience of over 12 years.

Born in Malaysia, Dr Vandana is fluent in English and proficient in Malay. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, listening to podcasts, hiking and swimming.

Dr Vandana believes in building long lasting relationships with all her patients and recognises that every patient’s health journey is unique.
